After talking with many other landscape designers and contractors, this client came to us with a few simple requests for their mature yard. First, they had plenty of yard with cooling grass and large trees, but when it came to their patio the sun and the heat made it unusable. They also wanted to take advantage of the sun in the fall and winter months, and were concerned that a permanent wooden structure would provide too much shade. We recommended and installed this fixed canvas awning structure that provides cooling shade in the summer, yet the canvas awnings roll back and can be attached to the house when not in use or removed for the winter.

Second, they wanted to raise a few vegetables but not the work of a full blown vegetable garden, so we installed these raised vegetable beds with side seat benches. They make it easy to sit, reach and garden at the same time, while their dog stays put.

We also particularly liked this garden art sculpture called "The Toaster!"
