This country home in Occidental was originally built in the 1980’s and recently remodeled and updated by a semi retired attorney and his wife from Los Angeles. It was their dream to escape the hectic life in Southern California, and live among the agriculture, vineyards and beauty of the Sonoma Wine Country. Gardens of the Wine Country helped achieve that goal from the design phase, through the installation and construction phase, all the way through the Santa Rosa landscape maintenance or grounds management phase. The vision was to create a sophisticated country experience and help make a seamless transition from L.A. city life to the Wine Country life.
Since this home is located in the middle of a large woodland of redwood, fir, vineyards and orchards, it naturally attracts all of the native fauna that inhabit the area. Deer, owls, fox, raccoons, gophers, moles, are all daily visitors to the property and many times attempt to browse and graze throughout the landscape plantings. The challenge from the design and maintenance standpoint is to continually eliminate or minimize the browsing damage without creating an ongoing or recurring cost of continual plant replacement.
