As a landscape contractor and ‘design build’ contractor, we are continually asked to help correct and manage problems that were not anticipated or overlooked by the original landscape designer or architect. On this property there were two major problems;
- Well water with high mineral content and silt that constantly plugged the irrigation systems
- This property was in a remote location and was home to deer, turkeys, fox, raccoon, coyote, gophers, moles and bats.
Our game plan to manage these problems was to re-design and install an irrigation system that minimized plugging problems, and install a series of irrigation filters that were checked and cleaned weekly. The original planting design was phased out and re-designed over a period of years using new plants that had no or minimal foraging attraction and plants that did not provide homes and sleeping quarters for the local critters.
